Joe Pug:
Start Again

After dropping out of college the day before he was to start his senior year, he moved to Chicago and picked up the guitar he hadn’t played since his teenage years. The songs that he wrote would eventually become the “Nation of Heat EP”, a self-released gem that has gone on to sell over 20,000 copies. With no publicist and no access to radio, Pug decided to recruit his fans to help spread the word. He took his most popular songs, printed up CDs, and offered to send them free of charge to anyone who wanted to share his music with their friends. And share they did. The momentum attracted the attention of Nashville indie label Lightning Rod Records, who signed Pug and released his full-length debut “Messenger” in 2010.

Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside:
Fried Green Tomatoes

Portland-based Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside vigorously mines a sweet spot between modern and vintage. Sallie’s voice has elicited comparisons to classic jazz and blues icons, yet it is stoked with the fire of youth and rebellion, too, an instrument capable of conveying raw emotion and nuanced artistry in the same breath. Intertwining elements of swinging roots rock, country, jazz, and blues with a contemporary lyrical stance and Ford’s instantly recognizable voice, the quartet is steadily earning a growing following throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Robinella:
Press On

From her unmistakable accent to her songs’ references to faith, family and the Appalachian landscape, Robinella could only have come from East Tennessee. Robin and former bandmate, Cruz Contreras, formed the core of Robinella and the CCstringband in the late 90’s. Robinella continues to make beguiling music that has no name. The acclaimed singer-songwriter has had folks struggling with descriptions as long as she has been making music. She has slipped in and out of genres ranging from bluegrass to jazz, always dodging labels.

Town Mountain:
Junior Johnson

Hailing from Asheville, North Carolina, Town Mountain brings you hard-driving, no nonsense, foot stomping bluegrass mixed with slow country crooning and a honkytonk edge. With topics ranging from love lost and heartache to the weariness of a midnight drive across America’s heartland to politically charged topics that most steer clear of, they pretty much cover it all.

Michelle Malone:
Flagpole

Armed with a bottleneck slide, blues harmonica, and her signature soul-filled vocals, Michelle Malone was born in the Deep South and grew up listening to her mother sing in the church choir every Sunday. When it came time to craft her own sound, she took those religious roots, blended in enough rock, folk, and blues to satisfy. The result is, Debris, a high-spirited stripped down blend of rootsy acoustic slide, gritty electric blues and explosive vocals that harkens back to the lost recordings of Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams and The Rolling Stones.
