Warren Jackson Hearne and Le Leek Electrique is a cadre of musicians steeping rooms and lounges alike in an atmosphere of southern jazz that guides audiences through narratives haunted by ghosts, devils, and personal tragedy. The band is a culmination of Warren’s previous projects from the clove-scented mystique and gothic beginnings with the Merrie Murder of Gloomadeers to the damned western narratives found in his solo touring.

Brandon Adams & The Sad Bastards:
Spillway

Lubbock-based Brandon Adams — with his deep musical roots as well as a spectrum of inspirations — stands out within the current Texas young country boom. A guitar his uncle gave him led Adams to begin making music while at Texas Tech. From song swaps and sing-along parties with friends, he quickly progressed to playing a local club with a friend as a duo and fronting a popular band in the Panhandle region After a stint working as a golf pro in Central Texas, Adams returned to Lubbock determined to write songs that reflect his own musical personality.

Daniel Payne:
Methamphetamine Cowboy

Daniel Payne is certainly no stranger to the life of musical gypsyhood. His exploits of rambling and relentless touring stretch across the globe. 800 Mile Monday is his band and channel for his stories. In between his friendly smiles and down-home West Texas “hi you all,” Payne howls and mourns his savage tales of betrayal, spurned lovers, and low down losers.

Rodney Parker & The 50 Peso Reward:
I Thought Your...

Rodney Parker & 50 Peso Reward is one of the most intriguing and insurrectionary bands to come out of the Texas music revolution since Steve Earle or the Old 97s. Shaking off the norms of the modern Texas music establishment, Parker & the Pesos take a more radical approach – a sound that is not any more southern rock than Steve Earle, and not any more outlaw than Robert Earl Keen. Like Earle, there are no plinks in their guitar riffs, the sound moves like a heavy motor across the strings. One writer called the Pesos the band that “Just might kick Old 97’s in the teeth”, and another called the Pesos “Weezer meets Waylon”. This may be the best rock band country music has to offer. Parkers songs are more introspective and respectful of consequences than the songs of many of his country music peers. Clever and intelligent, Parker is reminiscent of Butch Hancock, a brusque and less tragic version of Slaid Cleaves.

Whiskey Shivers:
Middlesborough

A freewheelin’, trashgrassin’, folk tornado, the Whiskey Shivers take traditional instrumentation, soak it in gasoline and send it into outer space. Breakneck speeds, killer grooves and impeccable musicianship: it’s enough to make Bill Monroe himself do a double-take as he spins in his grave. With upright bass, fiddle, washboard, banjo, guitar, and reasonably priced merchandise, Whiskey Shivers adds a fine layer of grit on top of the hard-driving rhythms of traditional bluegrass. They’ve been called everything from “trashgrass” to “hardcore roots” to “crazy-assed redneck music” — whatever the words, the meaning is the same: Whiskey Shivers brings the house down.

Charlie Shafter:
Seawall

Sometimes you encounter a musical artist for a first time and find yourself experiencing a warm sense of déjà vu – not a feeling that you’ve heard it all before, but a feeling that you’ve reunited with a person you’ve known for ages, someone with whom you share a connection. That’s the vibe conjured up by Charlie Shafter, a young singer-songwriter with an old soul – and a knack for forging a connection with just about anyone who crosses paths with his songs.
